"Ladakh has changed my life”
Kathi Roth, nurse and project manager for Amchis / local doctors for Tibetan medicine.
She lives two lives;
Kathi Roth retired in 2010. She worked in supervisory positions in hospitals and nursing homes. Now she is still working part-time in home-care when she is in Switzerland.
She is mother of two adult daughters.
The other life is in Asia in Ladakh. The 'high passes country” in the Trans Himalaya is one of the poorest areas of the world. There, Kaethi Roth is actively promoting health by supporting the Amchis. Since 1996, she has been travelling to the Himalayas every year. She saw the needs of the people. With persistence and with an openness to foreign cultures Kaethi Roth set up the private project. She succeeded in finding sponsors for the Amchis through friends and acquaintances.
In the solitude of the Himalayan mountains Kaethi feels that she recharges herself each time she visits and realizes how privileged we are in the West.
" I am very impressed with the serenity of the people and their positive attitude to life" says Kathi Roth, who is happy to provide more information and facilitate contacts.
The sponsoring money is wisely used and overseen by Kaethi. She pays for her journey and stay herself and lives very simply in the Amchi's houses. This way, she can directly assess the situation and needs. She supported the Amchis to found the Local Doctors Association in Ladakh. Over the years, she has been coaching the Amchis to get more and more independant and to slowly step back herself. However, they still need the financial support.
She hopes that many more people, through Ladakhpartners, will use the opportunity to change the world a little.
